OUR HISTORY
THE EARLY DAYS
The Trinity Annual Conference (TRAC) of the Methodist Church in Singapore identified Bukit Batok as the pioneer site for the church planting work in 1986. Reverend Lorna Khoo was appointed to head the project. It was under her leadership that a ministry modelled after the ministry of Jesus was set up. The Incarnation of Christ (John 1:14, Phil 2:5 – 11) became the church’s mission and ministry to the community in Bukit Batok. The Incarnation Ministry started with home Bible study. This was later followed by weekly Sunday Worship Service and Sunday School. The number of members had grown to 30 by the year 1989.
FROM A COMMUNITY TO AN OFFICIAL
METHODIST CHURCH
By God’s grace, on 12 January 1992, the Incarnation community became a new congregation when it was inaugurated as a Local Conference. Thus, from the Methodist Community of the Incarnation we became The Methodist Church of the Incarnation (MCI). At the same time TRAC had successfully bidded for a piece of land at Teck Whye Lane in the Chua Chu Kang housing estate. The church building quickly came into form and the official opening and consecration service were held on 8th January in 1995 presided over by the then Bishop Ho Chee Sin.
MCI continued its outreach and missions ministries and the church kindergarten commenced in 1996. A Mandarin Service was also inaugurated in 1996. The church membership had grown to 266 as of September 1999. With the increase in the number of ministries and activities, MCI embarked on an extension project. Two more levels were added to the existing administrative block. In June 1999, MCI was granted the official approval for the use of the new extension levels.
